Guardianship Lawyers Helping Clients in Utah County

Providing residents of Provo and Orem with trustworthy counsel since 1957

If you are unable to take care of your child or someone you love who has become mentally or physically incapacitated, you can seek to establish a legal guardianship. At Jeffs & Jeffs, P.C., we are honored to protect the best interests of all parties in guardianship and conservatorship matters. Our experienced legal team can help you petition the probate court for the creation of a guardianship for your family member or child. In addition, our Provo attorneys can provide you with general advice regarding the process and types of guardianships.

Types of guardianships

There are many forms of guardianships that may be appropriate for you depending on the circumstances of your situation. Our lawyers have an in-depth understanding of the process involved in establishing a guardianship or conservatorship.

We can review your case and advise you on which of the following types of guardianship would be most beneficial for you:

  • Limited guardianship: In some cases, a ward may be able to make certain responsible decisions. In situations where a ward is incapable of making all of their decisions on their own, the court may grant a limited guardianship.
  • Co-guardianship: Two guardians may be appointed to protect the interests of a ward. This may be done to prevent a single guardian from abusing his or her powers or to provide continuity of protection for the ward. Important decisions about the ward may require approval from both guardians.
  • Guardian of property: It may be necessary to appoint a guardian of property (a conservator) to manage the financial assets and resources needed to care for a ward.
  • Guardian ad litem: A guardian ad litem represents the legal interests of the ward. A guardian ad litem can make recommendations to the court about issues related to custody, visitation or pursuit of other legal rights.

As knowledgeable attorneys in Provo and Orem, we at Jeffs & Jeffs, P.C. are here to answer all of your questions related to guardianships. We recognize that you want what’s best for your family and we want to help you make important legal decisions with confidence and security.
